Debating and Public Speaking Achievements
This term, our school’s debate teams demonstrated incredible dedication and skill in the first round of the 9-12 Debaters Association of Victoria (DAV) competition. The A-grade team - Vivien Tang, Jake Proctor, and Aiden Turker - gave an outstanding performance in a close debate, narrowly losing by just one point. Their hard work and commitment were evident throughout, and their performance is a testament to their growth as debaters.
On the other hand, our C-grade team - Clara Koodrasev, Mehaknoor Kaur, and April Proctor - had a fantastic debut, delivering an exceptional performance in their first debate together.
Their teamwork and determination were key to securing a well-deserved victory. We are excited to see how both teams will continue to develop in the upcoming rounds!
Lions Club Youth of the Year Success
In addition to their efforts in the DAV competition, Vivien Tang and Jake Proctor also competed in the Lions Club Youth of the Year event. Alongside three other participants, they faced an interview panel with complex questions, delivered impromptu speeches on two topics, and gave prepared 5-minute speeches on current issues they are passionate about. Both Jake and Vivien impressed the judges with their confidence, poise and depth of knowledge on local and global affairs.
We are thrilled to announce that Vivien was named the overall winner of the competition and will progress to the next round. The school is incredibly proud of their performances, and we would like to extend our deepest congratulations to Vivien and Jake for their fantastic achievements.
Looking Ahead: Upcoming Events
Looking ahead, we are excited about the upcoming events in the next few weeks! Our debate teams will be participating in DAV Round 2, where they will face off against new opponents. We also look forward to the Lions Club Youth of the Year final, where Vivien will represent our school in the next stage of the competition.
