Term 3 Sport has come to a close with some fantastic team success and a record number of boys participating. It was great to see so many boys participating in our BAS Soccer and BAS/ACC Basketball teams this term.
Basketball
Unfortunately, we lost the Semi Final to a strong St Bernard's College outfit. The game was a nail- biting affair. Down by three with a second left in the game, Taj Bowman launched a three-ball runner that hit nothing but net to tie the scores and send the game into overtime! Unfortunately, we had a couple of boys in foul trouble (big man Brock Healy and Point Guard Levi Munyard) and we ran out of steam to end up losing by five. Thanks to coaches Eric Hayes and Jarrod Fryar and Basketball Coordinator Josh Ebbels for another great season. Read more basketball reports on the next page.
Cross Country
We had an extremely successful ACC Cross Country this year with the boys beating out a number of big Melbourne schools to win the Division 2 title. Next year we will step up to Division 1. The Under 16’s and Senior teams won their pool. Well done to Ollie Ryan who won gold in extremely impressive fashion. He ran the tricky 3km course in 9.45.
Well done to Mitch Korosec who won a silver medal in the under 16 age group.
This term we participated in the following sports in the BAS competition:
Next term, the following sports will be on offer to students:
Congratulations to our Senior Boys Division 1 Basketball team who beat Ballarat Grammar in the BAS Grand Final on Thursday night.
Brock Healy was simply amazing with 14 points, multiple blocks, a bunch of rebounds and some seriously strong leadership! All boys played well and never gave Grammar a chance!
Well done to our latest champions: Brock Healy, Alex Stevens, Liam Costello, Ashton Halsall, Ashton Healy, Kobi Simpson, Blake Scott, Eddie Dekker, Ethan Matherson and
Tom Sparkman.
On Friday, 17 October we will host St Joseph’s Geelong in what will become an annual fixture where our best young footballers (Years 7 and 8 students) will play St Joseph's College. Further details will be communicated to students early next term.

The best form of communication we have with parent/guardians is via the Parent Access Module (PAM). Students require permission to participate in all sport. Parent/guardians will receive the information through a PAM activity permission. Please ensure that you read the information prior to giving permission and that you also talk to students about the information.
The daily messages are one of the best ways we can distribute information to students about sports that are on offer and where sign up meetings will be held. Students should check the daily messages regularly.
Once students have signed up for a sport, we will be adding them into a MS Teams group where they can communicate directly with their coach. Students must communicate with their coach if they are unavailable for a match so we can find a replacement to ensure we have a full team for each match.
If students are unsure of how to sign up for a sport or want more information, they can visit sports staff in the gymnasium.
All sport uniforms can be purchased at Dobsons Uniform Shop, located in Mair St, Ballarat. Students need to ensure they are in the correct uniform to participate in Sport. We have a fantastic uniform, and students should wear the Green, White and Blue with pride.
The general sport uniform is the navy blue polo top, navy shorts and white socks. Certain sports will require very specific clothing e.g. 1st XI Cricketers require SPC Whites, SPC cricket shirt and SPC cricket cap. Students should check with their coach as to what is required. Also remember to wear sunscreen at all times.
I wish all students and coaches the best in 2025. Always play the game in the right spirit, wear the correct uniform and respect the facilities, home and away. St Patrick’s College is steeped in sporting tradition and 2024 was an historic year for Sport at SPC.
