Principal Report

Growth… again!
We recently found out that Koo Wee Rup Secondary College was among the top 20 schools in the State of Victoria for our improvements in NAPLAN results last year. A fantastic achievement for our students and staff at the college and a recognition of the work we have been doing over the past few years.
We are extremely proud to announce that we again improved our NAPLAN results this year!
Some key highlights include:
- Year 9 Reading results (% of exceeding and strong) – improved on last year and higher than State, Similar Schools, and Network Schools
- Year 9 Writing results (% of exceeding and strong) – improved on last year and higher than Similar Schools, Network Schools, and 1% off the State
- Year 9 (% High and Medium Growth) Reading, Writing, Grammar and Punctuation, and Numeracy – improved on last year and higher than Similar Schools and State
These results are a credit to the hard work of our students and the support from our committed staff.
Parent Teacher Interviews
We are looking forward to the upcoming Parent/Teacher Interviews on Thursday, 10 September (4-7pm) onsite and Friday, 11 September (8:30am -12:30pm) online. Following a trial of this modified version of our Parent/Teacher Interviews last year, we are implementing the same approach to cater to the various ways families like to engage with staff at the college. Further information will be provided shortly via Compass.
2027 Planning
Thank you to families and students who attended the relevant information evenings early this term to assist with making informed decisions about subject preferences for 2027. We are well underway with our 2027 planning, including determining course pathways and managing the subject selection process for all relevant students. While our students enjoy a wide variety of subject choices, subjects will only run where there are sufficient enrolments, as determined by the Principal. If a subject does not attract the required number of students, students will be placed into one of their nominated reserve preferences.
Parent/Carer Opinion Survey
Our school is conducting the annual Parent / Carer Opinion Survey offered by the Department of Education and is seeking your feedback. The survey is designed to assist schools in understanding families’ perceptions of school climate, student behavior, and student engagement. The survey is optional, but we encourage and appreciate your participation.
Our school will use the survey results to assist in identifying areas for improvement and professional development needs in the school, to target school planning and improvement strategies. The Parent / Carer Opinion Survey will be open online from Monday, 17 August to Friday, 18 September 2026. All families are invited to participate in the survey. The survey will be conducted online, takes only 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time on desktop computers, laptops, tablets, or smartphones.
The online survey will be available in English and 10 other languages, including Arabic, Greek, Hakha Chin, Hindi, Japanese, Punjabi, Simplified Chinese, Somali, Turkish, and Vietnamese. Resources are also available in other languages to assist parents/carers who speak a language other than English at home.
Further information will be provided via Compass.
