Year 5/6

As the end of the term approaches, we would once again like to thank our students and their families for their effort and support.  We will move into Term 4, the last for our primarys schooling, we have a number of events and opportunities to connect to our school community. 

English 

In the last couple of weeks in our English block, we have finalised our writing unit on Information Reports. Students demonstrated their ability to be able to research, draft and publish an information report on a chosen topic. We also finished out term class novel 'Once'. Students engaged heavily with a range of different elements from spelling, punctuation and grammar and built upon their reading fluency. 

Maths

In Maths this term we are so proud of the way our students applied themselves in some difficult and complex topics. This term we have engaged in topics for Fractions as well as Measurement and Time and we have more recently learning about Probability. Students have been understanding that events have a limited amount of outcomes that can be influenced by different independent and dependent variables. 

Humanities

In our Humanities lessons this term we have focused on the science unit 'Journey To Discovery'. Over the last few weeks students have been doing a range of science experiments and making predictions to prove. In the last couple of weeks we have began coding using the online program Scratch. Next week on Wednesday we will have open classrooms to demonstrate their learning starting at 3pm.  We encourage all families to pop in before bell time and say hello. 

Events

Last week we ventured out to Queenscliff Marine Discovery Centre and Beach to take part in the Seas the Day Excursions.  Despite attempts to change the date for inclement weather, we unfortunately could not head out on the boats. Even still, our students and staff had ana amazing time beachcombing and learning about marine life.

In Week 7 we celebrated Book Week with our students doing an amazing job in dressing as their favourite book characters. We appreciate all the time and effort that goes into sorted outfits for the parade. 

This week we were lucky enough to have the Melbourne Stars and Modewarre Cricket Club come out to run a cricket clinic for our 5/6s on Monday. The kids were so excited to take part and learn some of the basics.
