Year 3/4

Camp!!!

Wow. What a week! After a short bus trip in which our students only asked, "Are we there yet?" 1539 times, we arrived at Log Cabin Camp. It was fantastic to see so many smiling faces, keen to get stuck into some fun activities. After a bit of housekeeping, we headed off for our first round of activities. 

After lunch, the students headed off to their cabins to get their beds set up and sort their bags before beginning our next round of activities. It was great to see students (and some teachers and ES) overcoming discomfort to give activities a try! 

Next up, dinner time! The lovely kitchen staff at Log Cabin Camp put on a great spread of chicken schnitzels and veg, which went down a treat! Then it was off on a night walk in the crisp evening air. With beams of torches bouncing off trees and the ever-present chatter of little voices, we made our way across paddocks and up hills to a quiet spot to reflect and show appreciation to the world we live in. Then off again we went back to camp where the team had set up small campfires ready for us to make damper. Only a few pieces fell off their sticks and into the fire, but overall the students had a lot of success cooking damper and then smothering it in jam, honey or butter! After a sip of some billy tea, we made our way to bed for the night. Day one done. 

Picture this. Birds chirping. Sun slowly rising over the horizon. A gentle breeze in the air. 65 kids asking, "What time is breakfast?"... Day two of Log Cabin Camp had begun. After refuelling with toast, fruit and cereal, we were off for another round of activities. Zipline, Giant Swing, Possum Gliding, Milk Crate Stacking, Challenge Course, Trampolines, Archery and a Photo Hunt were the activities on the card for the day, broken up with snack breaks and a lunch break.

Thankfully, the kitchen crew had plenty of carbs to tuck into for dinner on day two with spaghetti bolognaise, garlic bread and salad. After filling up our bellies with a little extra sticky date pudding and butterscotch sauce, we got into our PJs and settled in to watch a movie: The Tale of Despereaux. Then it was off to bed for a good night's sleep.

Just like that, we were onto our last day. Wake up. Breakfast. Hut Building. It was amazing to see students working together to build a hut out of sticks, logs, branches and anything else they could find. Students needed to give a backstory to their hut and I think we can safely say that our students can spin a yarn. 

Next up, a huge game of capture the flag with the whole group. Everyone enthusiastically joined in, working together with their teammates to develop strategies, protect their flag and attempt to capture the opposing team’s flag. There was plenty of running, jumping, slipping and sliding. 

Another round of food was enjoyed by all before we finished packing up our cabins and loaded up the bus, ready to make the journey back to Moriac. The trip back was a much quieter affair with tired students taking naps or relaxing. 

We wanted to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone involved in making our Year 3/4 Camp a wonderful success. Many happy memories were made for both students and staff. We wanted to thank our students in particular for the bravery, positivity, encouragement and enthusiasm toward this experience! A special thank you to our parent helper, Candice. Your support was much appreciated by all.
