BRAIN BREAKS

Requested Brain Breaks – Supporting Student Regulation

At Moriac Primary School, we recognise that students learn best when they are regulated, settled and ready to engage. As a Berry Street school, we follow their guidance regarding these strategies. Brain Breaks are often recommended for some students by Allied Health professionals as a strategy to support young people.

A brain break is a short (2-5min) opportunity for a student to reset their brain and body, helping them return to learning feeling more focused and ready to participate.

Brain breaks can look different for different students and may include movement, breathing, stretching, a quiet activity or time to reset in a calm space.

Brain breaks are to take place within the classroom preferably outside of explicit teaching time, using each class’s Calm Corner, but can also take place outside when an Education Support staff member is available to support the student.
