Around Our Level
Last Friday, our Prep, Year 1, and Year 2 students attended the Lego Brickz 4 Kidz school incursion in the STEAM room. Students in Prep had to read through, look at the pictures, and follow the steps in the instructional manual. Their mission was to build a ‘tornado’ with moving parts using cogs, wheels, axels, and a battery. It was amazing to see our students working together as a team, working collaboratively, problem solving, and experiencing success. We had several ‘superstars’ who helped and supported teams and other students. Once the students recognised how the Lego parts worked, teams got creative and were able to make more than one moving/spinning part. There were certainly some very creative designs. A big thank you to Mrs Cooper for organising this incursion.

Last week, we also celebrated ‘Donut Day’ at YRPS, which was a very popular event. Students and teachers enjoyed eating their donuts, and to quote one of our Prep students, ‘This is the best day ever!’. A huge thank you to our wonderful Parents Association and parent volunteers on the day.
This week in Literacy, we have been learning about the sounds that letters ‘h’ and ‘r’ make. Our heart word focus has been on the words 'he', 'be', and 'me'.
In Maths, we have been learning about 2D shapes, including circles, squares, rectangles, triangles, ovals, and rhombuses (diamonds), and students created pictures of cars, houses, flowers, rockets, and more.
We have also been learning about the different properties of 2D shapes, such edges, vertices, corners, straight lines, curved lines, equal sides, long sides, and short sides.

In Integrated Studies, we have been learning about history through the past and through photographs. We have certainly enjoyed looking at the students’ photos from birth, special milestones, and celebrations. We have also enjoyed our teachers sharing their special photos with students.
Last week, we also resumed our very popular PMP Program. Thank you to all our wonderful parents that support this program each week and enjoy seeing their children develop their coordination, spatial awareness, and confidence.
A huge thank you to all the families that have generously donated to our charity this term, "The Blue Cross", which is an animal shelter in Wonga Park. Our donation box is overflowing with dog bowls, toys, pet beds, old towels and blankets, and food. Students have enjoyed earning large house points for their donations.

Students are nominated by their teachers to receive a certificate of acknowledgment. The below students' certificates will be presented at our next assembly.
