As team lists are not consistently provided to the College, we ask families to email sac.absences@cns.catholic.edu.au to let us know if your son is participating in these carnivals. This ensures his attendance is recorded accurately.

CISSA

St Augustine’s closed out the final round of the regular season with a washout round against Bentley Park College. AFL dominated the top of the table clash, winning 82-13. Our Football and Touch teams played out two nail-biting draws. All five St Augustine's CISSA teams qualified for the semi-finals last week. Four of our five teams won their semis to progress to the Grand Final, with only an understrength CISSA Volleyball team – missing 4 starters – losing to St Mary's in a competitive match. Our AFL team progressed through with a forfeit victory, while our Basketball team defeated Bentley Park 88–34, Football won 2–1, and Touch won 10–3.

In the Grand Finals this week, our AFL team defeated Trinity Bay 82-13 to claim the premiership, while Basketball got one over our long-standing rivals Cairns High 70-72. Football won 4-2 against a strong Cairns High squad, and Touch remained undefeated winning 9-6 against Bentley Park. It was a tremendous effort from all our boys across the competition which results in four out of a possible five champion teams.

These results capped off a remarkable CISSA campaign for St Augustine’s, culminating in being named Overall Boys Champion School and Overall Champion School

A huge thank you to our dedicated coaches for their tireless efforts throughout the season:

  • Mr Rigby and Mr Newman (AFL)
  • Mr Chapman (Basketball)
  • Mr Sorensen (Football)
  • Mr Brimstone (Touch Football)
  • Mr Elliott (Volleyball)

Our teams’ success would not have been possible without their commitment.

Senior AFLQ Cup

On Tuesday 26 May, the Senior AFL team competed in the Cairns Region AFLQ Cup Carnival held at Watsons Oval. The team remained undefeated throughout the pool matches before defeating Trinity Bay in the final to claim the regional title. This outstanding result sees our Senior team join both our Junior and Youth teams at the FNQ Championships in Townsville on 28–29 July.

Congratulations to all players and staff involved, and we wish the teams every success as they prepare to represent the College at the next stage of competition.
