Grade 5/6 Mass

This week, we joined together with the parish community for Mass, sharing a special time of prayer, reflection, and connection. It was wonderful to see our Grade 5/6 students participate with such respect and maturity throughout the celebration. Opportunities like this help us continue to build our faith community and reflect on the values we aim to show in our words and actions each day.

Inquiry 

Over the past fortnight in Inquiry, students have continued their journey as young entrepreneurs on Paradise Island. We have been learning about the different types of resources that communities and businesses need in order to operate successfully. Students explored human resources, natural resources and capital resources, and then applied this knowledge by planning the resources their own Paradise Island market stalls may need.

Students also began learning about scarcity and why businesses sometimes need to make careful choices when resources are limited. Students explored what happens when there is not enough of something for everyone who wants or needs it. They then connected this learning back to Paradise Island by considering how limited resources such as food, water, space, money or equipment could affect their market stalls. It has been great to see students thinking like entrepreneurs and beginning to make thoughtful decisions about how their stalls could work in a real community.

Literacy

This term, students have been really engaged in our novel study of The Grandest Bookshop in the World. As we read, we have been following the adventures of the Cole children and using our own thinking skills to unpack the clues, riddles and mysteries throughout the story. It has been wonderful to see students sharing their ideas, making predictions and trying to piece things together as the story unfolds.Next week, we are very excited to welcome author Amelia Mellor to our school on Monday 10th August. Students will have the chance to learn more about where her ideas come from, how she created such an imaginative story, and what it is like to be an author. 

100 Days of Prep (Buddy Edition)

To celebrate 100 Days of Prep, our Grade 6 students helped create a fun obstacle course for the Prep students to enjoy. It was wonderful to see our senior students taking on a leadership role, encouraging the Preps and helping them move safely through each activity. The Prep students had a fantastic time, and it was a lovely example of our older students showing care, patience and school spirit.
