Bonjour, dear parents and students,
Welcome back to Term 3! We hope everyone enjoyed a relaxing and refreshing winter break.
We are looking forward to another exciting term of extending our students' French language skills. With Le Jour de la Francophonie now behind us, we hope French Day left a lasting impression on the students at Tarneit Rise and inspired them to continue their French learning journey with enthusiasm.
Below is a snapshot of what each year level will be exploring in Weeks 1–2:
Prep
Students have been learning how to introduce themselves by saying Je m'appelle ("My name is...") and stating their age in French. They have also been practising asking their peers for their names and ages to build their speaking confidence. Next, they will learn to express their emotions in French.
Grade 1
Students have been learning the months of the year in French and have been consolidating their knowledge by sequencing them in the correct order. They will also practise asking and answering questions such as Quel mois est-ce ? ("What month is it?") and Quel mois est ton anniversaire ? ("What month is your birthday?") using complete sentences.
Grade 2
Students have been learning the names of classroom objects and using them in complete French sentences. They will then build on this knowledge by learning how to ask and answer questions about classroom objects.
Grade 3
Students have been focusing on adjectives and noun gender, applying their learning by creating and describing their own superhero. Next, they will explore animals commonly found in a zoo and describe them using complete French sentences.
Grade 4
Students have been learning to express foods they like and dislike in French while practising both positive and negative sentence structures. They will then be introduced to the verb être ("to be") and learn how it changes according to the subject pronoun.
Grade 5
Students have been reviewing the verbs être ("to be") and avoir ("to have") and their conjugations. They will then be introduced to regular -ir verbs and learn how to conjugate them according to the subject pronoun.
Grade 6
Students will continue building on their understanding of the verbs être and avoir before extending their knowledge of regular -ir verbs and their conjugations. They will apply these skills in increasingly complex spoken and written French.
We look forward to another wonderful term of learning and discovering the French language together.
French Choir (Grades 3–6) (Madame Ma and Miss Martine) French Choir will continue this term Mondays after school. Students who participated last term are asked to accept the Compass permission request.
Advanced French Club (Mr. Zach)
The Advanced French club will continue this term Mondays afterschool as well. Accept the Compass permission request if you are interested!
