Physical Education News

Dear Tarneit Rise Primary School Families and Friends
Welcome back to school for term 3, we have been working hard practicing some important skills in Physical Education this fortnight.
We welcome two teachers back to PE this term, Miss Hubbard and Miss Chamings.
Both teachers are coming back from time off after having their babies so most students would have seen them around before. I’m sure they’ll be happy to see some familiar faces around.
We also like to congratulate our TRPS Tee ball team that made divisional finals and had a great day but unfortunately did not make it through further.
Our TRPS Soccer team also made divisional finals and played really well throughout the day, unfortunately not making it through.
We will have an update on our TRPS Netball and AFL teams next newsletter.
Preps:
The Preps have gotten straight to work in PE focusing on their fundamental movement skills during their gymnastics circuits. They have focused on exploring the importance of their vestibular systems and how this supports our balance during movements. The students have completed these circuits whilst ensuring they move in a safe manner for themselves and their peers.
Grade 1s and 2s:
Grade 1s and 2s have also been focusing on gymnastics circuits and developing their fundamental movement skills. They have been exploring how their vestibular system and muscular system will support their balance and their body doing different movements whilst maintaining safety and awareness of their environment.
Grade 3s and 4s:
The grade 3 students have begun working on target games, such as bocce and cornhole. They have been exploring different ways to aim during these games when using an underarm throw. These games are opposed games and the students have discussed ways that others can knock their balls or equipment out the way to affect their opponents throw or score.
Grade 4s have been exploring target games as well. They have explored using different techniques and trialling different trajectories to affect their opponents throw or score. When students were playing they have also been working on respect and turn taking whilst waiting.
Grades 5s and 6s:
Grade 5 and 6 students were working on target games this fortnight, such as bocce and cornhole. They worked on the importance of aiming before under arm throwing the ball or bean bag to ensure they develop the correct skills. They also explored ways they can affect the opponents score by altering their throwing technique to move their opponents ball or bean bag.
