Year 9 Jade Lewis Talk on Respectful Relationships

Our Year 9 students recently participated in the Respectful Relationships – The Key of Choices presentation delivered by engaging presenter Jade Lewis. The session supported both the Keeping Safe Child Protection Curriculum and the CEWA Wellbeing Framework, with a strong focus on building healthy relationships, making positive choices, and setting respectful boundaries.
Students explored the idea that choices are constant and powerful, with the reminder that the decisions we make every day help shape our identity, character, reputation, and future. Through relatable examples, students discussed the difference between wise, thoughtless, and reckless choices, particularly in friendships, social situations, and online interactions.
A key part of the presentation examined adolescent brain development, helping students understand why emotions can sometimes lead to reactive behaviour. Jade encouraged students to reflect on what may sit behind unkind actions, including insecurity, hurt, peer pressure, or the desire to fit in.
The session highlighted five key choices: choosing words that build others up, choosing courage over silence, choosing safety in relationships, choosing wisdom online, and choosing who they are becoming through small daily actions. Important online safety topics such as cyberbullying, sexting, sextortion, digital footprints, and AI manipulation were addressed in an age-appropriate and informative way.
Students also participated in a meaningful quote card activity and were reminded of available school and external support services. Jade Lewis presented with warmth, professionalism, and authenticity, making the session both impactful and highly relevant for Year 9 students
