Year 7 Poetry in Action

Our Year 7 students at Lumen Christi College recently participated in an exciting poetry incursion as part of their English unit of study on poetry. The program, titled Rhyme Battle Royale, featured a dynamic live performance where talented actors brought the beauty and power of poetry to life through engaging and innovative presentations. The incursion was designed to unlock the power of words and showcase a strong, expressive Australian voice, inspiring students to see poetry as both meaningful and enjoyable.
Throughout the performance, students explored key poetic elements such as rhyme, rhythm, imagery, story, and theme. These concepts were presented in an interactive and entertaining way, helping students to deepen their understanding of how poetry works and how language can be used creatively to communicate ideas and emotions. By seeing poetry performed live, students gained a richer appreciation of the way words can create vivid images and powerful connections with audiences.
This valuable learning experience directly supported the Year 7 English curriculum and strengthened students’ understanding of the poetry unit they are currently studying. More importantly, it aimed to foster a lasting appreciation of literary texts, building a strong foundation for their continued study of English throughout their college years.
