VCE & Careers Expo

VCE & Careers Expo

Our Year 11 students recently attended the VCE Careers Expo, held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, taking a proactive step towards shaping their future pathways. Throughout the day students engaged with a wide range of universities, TAFEs, and industry representatives, gathering valuable information about courses, prerequisites, and career opportunities. The experience encouraged students to ask questions, explore emerging fields, and reflect on their personal interests and strengths as they begin to make important decisions about their post-school options. The expo provided a meaningful opportunity for students to connect classroom learning with real-world pathways, equipping them with greater confidence and clarity for the years ahead.

Meanwhile, Ms Tasiopoulos’ VCE Biology Unit 3 students had the exciting opportunity to meet renowned Biology educator Andrew Douch, who shared practical and highly effective study advice. He encouraged students to build consistent study habits - “study like you brush your teeth” - emphasising that small, regular revision sessions can accumulate into significant learning over time. He also highlighted the importance of topical, exam-based study, using assessment reports to refine understanding, and applying techniques such as the Pomodoro method, spaced repetition, and Cornell note-taking to improve retention. Students were inspired to think more strategically about exam questions, understand command terms, and even explore the Greek and Latin roots of biological terminology to deepen comprehension. The session was both motivating and insightful, leaving students with a toolkit of strategies to maximise their success in VCE Biology.
