Wellbeing Update

It has been another busy and rewarding term for the Wellbeing Team, and it has been wonderful to see students settled into routines and engaging positively across the school community.
One of the highlights this term has been the successful launch of our Junior Social Skills Program. The program is now well underway and providing students with valuable opportunities to build confidence, strengthen communication skills, develop positive friendships, and practise teamwork in a supportive environment.
A huge thank you goes to our superstar Friday Wellbeing Officer, Teagan, for the energy, care, and enthusiasm she brings to running the program each week. Her commitment to supporting our junior students has already made a noticeable impact, and we are very grateful for all the work she does behind the scenes to make the sessions engaging and meaningful.
This term we also sadly say goodbye to Agnes, our Master of Counselling student placement, who has been an incredible support to the Wellbeing Team. Agnes worked closely alongside Teagan in running the Social Skills Program, while also providing valuable individual support to many of our students. We thank Agnes for her kindness, dedication, and the positive impact she has made during her time with us, and we wish her all the very best in her future career.
We are also excited to have commenced our second ICAN session — our neurodiverse mentoring group. The sessions have started brilliantly, with students already enjoying the opportunity to connect, learn, and build confidence together.
Earlier this term, we were thrilled to welcome the CEO (Chief Enabling Officer) of ICAN to visit and see firsthand the wonderful engagement and fun our students are having within the program. In Week 7, ICAN will also host a visit from the Shadow Minister for Education, David Southwick MP, providing another exciting opportunity to showcase the fantastic work and student engagement occurring through the program.
Recently, Glen Eira College was also invited to present at a Communities of Practice event, where staff shared insights into our Thrive transition program for Year 7 students. Developed collaboratively by the Wellbeing Team, Teaching and Learning Team, Junior Subschool and strongly supported by the Principal Team, the program focuses on building student connection, belonging, wellbeing and confidence as students transition into secondary school through a staged and relationship-focused approach during the first weeks of Year 7.
We look forward to continuing these programs throughout the year and celebrating the growth, connections, and achievements of our students along the way.
