Leadership Team Update

It has been another busy and positive few weeks at Glen Eira College, with many exciting improvements, professional learning opportunities and student voice initiatives continuing across the school.

We are also proud to celebrate our recent NAPLAN achievements. In Year 9, 90% of students achieved Strong or Exceeding in Numeracy, while 82% of students achieved Strong or Exceeding in Reading. These excellent results reflect the hard work of our students and staff, and our continued focus on explicit teaching, high expectations and supporting every student to achieve learning growth.

Members of the Leadership Team recently participated in a Social Cohesion Care and Respect workshop focused on strengthening respectful dialogue, perspective taking and social cohesion within school communities. The workshop provided valuable strategies to further support our ongoing whole-school focus on  Care and Respect, which remains a key priority identified through our student voice and ATOSS data.

We are also pleased to share several exciting improvements to our school grounds and student recreational spaces. New soccer goals have now been installed on the oval, providing additional opportunities for active play and lunchtime sport. Our table tennis area has also received a makeover, creating a more welcoming and engaging space for students to connect and enjoy during breaks.

Across the school, staff continue to engage in high-quality professional learning. A number of our Mathematics teachers are currently participating in a Mathematics Community of Practice, collaborating with colleagues across schools to strengthen teaching strategies and student outcomes in numeracy.

Within our Professional Learning Community (PLC) cycles, staff have been focusing on increasing Opportunities to Respond  in classrooms. This work aligns with the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model 2.0 and supports student engagement through strategies such as mini whiteboards, checking for understanding, questioning techniques and active participation during lessons.

The annual  Attitudes to School Survey (ATOSS) is currently taking place. Student feedback through ATOSS is extremely valuable and helps inform future school improvement priorities, wellbeing initiatives and teaching practices. We encourage all students to thoughtfully complete the survey and have their voices heard.

Another exciting sustainability initiative currently underway is the installation of solar panels across the school. This project supports our commitment to environmental responsibility and reducing the school’s long-term energy consumption.

Families are also reminded that a number of updated school policies are available on the Glen Eira College website. Recent updates include:

  • Student Wellbeing and Engagement Policy
  • Sun Protection Policy
  • Attendance Policy and Procedures

  • Student Engagement and Behaviour Support Processes
  • Bullying Prevention Policy
  • Child Safety Policies and Procedures
  • Complaints Policy
  • Camps and Excursions Policy and Procedures

We encourage families to review these updates via the school website.

Thank you to our students, staff and families for continuing to support the positive culture of learning, growth and connection across our college community.
