Amazing 5/6
From the Teachers
Term 3 continues to be full of exciting opportunities, and it has been wonderful to see our students embracing every experience with enthusiasm and pride. Congratulations to our girls' T-ball team, who have successfully progressed through to the next stage of competition. We wish them all the best as they continue their journey. We also congratulate our mixed netball team on finishing as runners-up at the Division competition. Their teamwork, resilience and positive attitude throughout the day were outstanding.
Last week also marked the beginning of our Bridge Builders program, with a group of Year 5/6 students visiting the local nursing home each Monday. This initiative provides students with the opportunity to build meaningful connections within our community.
Term 3 is a busy one and the students are eagerly looking forward to Book Week, Market Day in Week 7 and, most of all, 5/6 camp!
Learning Focuses
Literacy
This week, our Year 5/6 students have continued developing their poetry skills while nearing the completion of their class novel study, Bindi. Throughout the unit, students have explored a range of poetic forms, creating original poems inspired by topics such as lunchtime, their favourite school subject and a natural disaster of their choice. We have been impressed by their growing confidence in incorporating poetic devices such as enjambment, repetition, similes, metaphors and personification to create engaging and expressive writing. We look forward to celebrating their completed poetry and reflecting on the themes explored in Bindi over the coming week.
Mathematics
In Year 5, students have continued extending their understanding of angles. They have identified different types of angles, used protractors to measure and draw angles, and explored the interior angles of polygons.
In Year 6, students have been learning about complementary and supplementary angles, as well as calculating unknown angles. They have applied their understanding to solve a range of worded problems, demonstrating their reasoning and mathematical thinking.
Inquiry
Our Year 5/6 students have been hard at work preparing for their Market Stall Day in Week 7. It has been wonderful to see the creativity, collaboration and entrepreneurial thinking on display as students plan and organise their stalls. We look forward to seeing all of their ideas come to life!
Market Stall Donations: To help make the day a success, we are seeking donations of a few items for our market stalls. We would greatly appreciate any donations of books, lemons, Ooshies, or trading cards (Pokémon, football, basketball or other collectible cards). If you are able to contribute, please send your donation to school with your child and have them give it to their classroom teacher. Thank you for your ongoing support of our Market Stall Day!
