Terrific 2

Year 2 Newsletter

Term 3 Week 4 2026 -  Friday 7th, August.

What have we been up to?

We are already into Week Four of our term! This year is passing by so quickly! Our students have been very busy working hard and trying their very best each day. They are so enthusiastic to learn.

Last week we watched a great zoom presentation from the author Andy Griffiths. He has written a new book and was talking all about it in a fun and interesting way. The students then completed a work sheet that accompanied the presentation.

In Literacy, We continue with our unit of Poetry. Last week we focused on rhyming poems. We read the Mem Fox book ‘I’m an Australian Too.’ We learnt about rhyming words and where they are positioned in poems. We talked about our families and where they originally came from (in relation to the Mem Fox book about families and their country of origin). We then brainstormed rhyming words to help write the poems. Writing rhyming poems can be quite a challenge but our year two students persisted and created some amazing work.

In Maths, we are starting to learn about shapes. We will be learning about regular and irregular polygons and identifying polygons in a picture. We will be identifying parallel sides in two dimensional shapes, and naming the sides and vertices when describing polygons.

In Inquiry, we are continuing to learn about the past and present in our community. We have been looking at old photos of Le Page Primary School from many years ago. This was quite fascinating and our students were so interested in then and now. We had such interesting conversation regarding the changes in school life. The topic discussion ranged from uniform changes, building changes, what our classrooms look like now and what equipment we use in our classrooms. Our year twos are really enjoying their inquiry topic.

Important reminders:
