Welcome to Week 4 of Term 3! 

Literacy:

Over the past two weeks in Literacy, students have continued exploring a range of poetic devices to help make their writing more engaging and creative. Our focus has been on alliteration and imagery, learning how authors carefully choose words to create vivid pictures in the reader's mind and make poems more memorable. As part of our learning, we enjoyed reading My Amazing Alphabet Alliteration Book, which inspired students to experiment with repeating beginning sounds in their own writing. We also read The Owl and the Moon, where students explored how descriptive language and imagery help readers imagine the sights, sounds and feelings within a poem. Throughout the term, students have been writing a variety of poems, applying the poetic devices they have learned in class. It has been wonderful to see their confidence, creativity and vocabulary grow with each piece of writing. We are incredibly proud of the imaginative ideas they have shared and the progress they have made as young poets. Their enthusiasm for experimenting with language has been fantastic, and we look forward to continuing to build on these skills in the coming weeks.

Phonics:

Maths:

In Mathematics, students recently completed their learning about angles, with a particular focus on identifying and recognising right angles in both everyday objects and geometric shapes. They developed their understanding by comparing angles and using their knowledge to determine whether an angle was smaller than, equal to, or greater than a right angle. We have now begun our new unit on telling the time. Students are learning to read both analogue and digital clocks, with a focus on telling the time to the nearest quarter past, quarter to, half past, and five-minute intervals. They are practising using the language of time confidently while solving real-life problems involving daily schedules and elapsed time. As this is a skill that improves with regular practice, we encourage students to continue reading clocks and discussing times throughout their day at home.

Inquiry:

This term in Inquiry, students will be exploring the important role that communities play in our everyday lives. They will investigate what makes a community successful, the responsibilities of community members, and how people can make positive contributions to help others.

Throughout the unit, students will compare different Australian communities, learn about the roles of community helpers, and discuss why rules and responsibilities are essential for keeping communities safe, inclusive and connected. They will also explore challenges that communities face and consider possible solutions to help improve them.

To conclude the unit, students will complete a Community Project, where they will design and create a poster showcasing their understanding of communities. They will explain what makes a community thrive, investigate how people contribute, identify community challenges and solutions, and design their own ideal community. This project will encourage students to apply their learning while demonstrating creativity, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

We look forward to seeing the wonderful ideas and thoughtful designs our students create as they discover how everyone can make a positive difference in their community.
