Term 3 Week 4 - Friday 7th August 2026

What a wonderful and busy couple of weeks we have had in Prep! It has been lovely to see how much the children have grown in confidence and independence throughout the term. They have all worked so hard completing their Maths assessments and should be very proud of the effort they have put in. In Literacy, we have been busy developing our writing skills, and it has been fantastic to watch the students become more confident writers. We have also enjoyed our specialist classes each week, where the children continue to learn new skills and have lots of fun.

Our biggest highlight was, of course, celebrating 100 Days of Prep! It was such a special day, and seeing the students dressed up, smiling and enjoying all of the activities made it one to remember. Thank you to all of our wonderful parents and carers who were able to join us for our celebration. Your support means so much, and it was lovely to share this important milestone with you. We can't believe how quickly the first 100 days have flown by, and we are so proud of everything our Prep students have achieved so far!

What we are learning!

Maths:

In Maths, we have been building our understanding of addition and subtraction through hands-on learning using a variety of concrete materials, such as counters, blocks and other classroom resources. These materials help the students develop a strong understanding of what it means to add groups together and take groups away before moving on to recording their thinking with numbers.

The students have also been learning how to solve number stories and, more recently, have enjoyed creating their own number stories. It has been wonderful to see them use their creativity while applying their mathematical thinking to real-life situations. The children are becoming more confident in explaining their thinking, representing their ideas with drawings and numbers, and sharing their strategies with their classmates.

The children have now completed the assessment for this unit, and we are incredibly proud of the progress they have made. It has been wonderful to see the growth in their confidence and mathematical understanding throughout the term. Over the coming weeks, we will begin our new unit on length, where students will explore and compare the length of different objects using everyday language such as longer, shorter and the same length. They will also have opportunities to measure using informal units and continue developing their problem-solving skills through hands-on activities.

Inquiry:

This term, we have begun our exciting Inquiry unit on Habitats and Life Cycles. The students are already showing great curiosity as they explore what living things need to survive and learn about the different habitats that plants and animals call home. Throughout the unit, we will investigate how animals grow and change over time, compare different life cycles, and discover how living things are suited to the environments in which they live.

One of the highlights of this unit will be our Butterfly Incursion later this term. This will be a wonderful hands-on learning experience where students will have the opportunity to deepen their understanding of the butterfly life cycle and see these amazing creatures up close. We are all looking forward to this exciting experience, and more details will be shared with families closer to the date.

Literacy:

In Literacy, we have been exploring rhyming couplets and discovering how authors use rhyme to make poems fun and engaging to read. The students have enjoyed identifying rhyming words, listening to a range of poems and practising creating their own rhyming pairs.

As their confidence grows, the children are now working towards writing their own rhyming couplets. They have been using their creativity and growing knowledge of sounds and rhyming words to create simple poems of their own. It has been wonderful to see their enthusiasm for writing and the pride they take in sharing their work with the class.

Phonics 

Leader In Me:

Students are also participating in regular Leader in Me (LIM) lessons each week. During these sessions, students are learning important skills such as being kind and respectful, making good choices, listening to others and working together positively with their classmates.

Monday:  Music, Auslan and RRRR 

Tuesday: Leader in Me, PE and Art 

Friday: Assembly (2.45pm in the hall, all parents welcome.)
