CLEVER CLASS
Here is a snapshot of some of the things we have been working on this term.
Novel Study
This term we have been reading a book called Kensuke’s Kingdom. In the book there is a boy named Michael. It is about a boy who falls off a ship called the Peggy Sue. After he falls off the ship, he swims to an island. His dog, Stella, also falls off the boat with him.
When they get to the island, they find food and water and wonder who put it there. Michael tries to light a fire, but an old man comes and says, “No fire! No fire!” Michael asks him if he is the one who has been leaving the food and water.
They eventually become friends and Kensuke, the old man, tells Michael what he should and shouldn’t do on the island, like not swimming in the ocean.

Science
A group of young Tassie scientists came to our school and talked to us about neuroscience, astronomy and marine life.
The marine scientist had us play a game called Guess That Sound. We listened to whale calls, pistol shrimps, boats and fish. We also learnt about the natural habitats of fish that live in the sea.
The astronomy scientist transferred light from the sun onto a special piece of paper and made a rainbow. We also spun a spinning top with rainbow colours on it and when it spun really fast, the colours looked white.
The neuroscientist talked to us about different gases and which types can be dangerous.

Art
We have completed two artworks recently.
First, we created a dog artwork. The dogs are very colourful and cute! We followed step-by-step slides to draw them and then used watercolours to add colour.
We have also been working on our St Francis of Assisi artworks for the Archibald Prize. We had lots of different materials to choose from, including oil pastels, pencils, markers, watercolours and paint.
