~
Our Soiree season has begun, and on Thursday 19 March, Woodwind students came together in the Theatre to perform for their families and friends in an informal setting.

The Soirees are the first chance of the year for students across years 7 to 12 to perform in front of an audience and for many of our new students, this is their first ever performance on their instrument.
One of the strengths of the Instrumental Music program is teaching performance skills and providing students with opportunities to learn how it feels, and how to prepare for, getting on stage. These skills are valuable life skills that also help in other educational settings.
Students performed a variety of pieces, from just a few notes to whole pieces - of which they are still learning and practicing. There were a few honks and squeaks here and there, and with support from teachers and peers, younger students were able to get back on track, whilst older students demonstrated the resilience they have built over the years.
It was so wonderful to meet and reconnect with families and students. I'm always reminded how supportive the Wantirna College community is.
I hope all the students had a wonderful time performing and listening to their peers. It is amazing how much growth takes place between now and the final peformances of the year.
I look forwad to seeing families at future events. Why not come along to the Staff Concert and see how resilient I am in the face of nerves..?
