Term 2
We hope everyone had a lovely Easter break and welcome to a new term of school at SEPS!Â
Literacy
Students have learnt j, v, w, e and x over the past two weeks. They are so close to finishing the whole alphabet! 'X' as in 'box' is a unique letter on the letter chart as the letter chart usually uses the first sound in a word. However, not many short words start with 'x' so the word 'box' has been used. We also learnt a cool new rule that no English word ends in a 'j' or a 'v'.Â
Â
We have been building upon our sentence knowledge, particularly focusing on a holiday and weekend recount. Students are learning that it is important to include the who, when, what and where to make it more interesting.

Heart Words:Â
Maths
At the beginning of each Maths lesson, we start with a short fluency activity or a review of previously taught concepts. At the moment, students are really enjoying revisiting skills such as identifying the number before and after, subitising, recognising patterns, and playing simple dice games. We have also begun a strong focus on numbers 11â20, with an emphasis on understanding how these numbers are constructed. For example, students are learning that 15 is made up of 10 and 5, and they are representing this using tens frames and hands-on materials. A key focus in our learning is encouraging students to explain their thinking and reasoning, helping to build both confidence and deeper understanding in Mathematics.
Ben the Bear
0A was lucky enough to have Ben the Bear - YAY! They were super excited and completed many fun activities with Ben. Additionally, a highlight was celebrating Ben's 6th Birthday! The students made jelly and wrote about their experience with Ben. We even made a cake and sung happy birthday to Ben. They loved showing Ben our routines in Foundation. He will be missed.Â
