Specialist Happenings

Visual Arts
The start of term 2 has been full of a lot of discussion about term 1's Art show and community event. Excited conversations about everyone's favourite part. It is always a thrill for the students to see their artwork on display.
We have been busy getting back into creating and there is a sense of fun and calm prevailing with pressure of arts fest behind us. We are working on understanding the use of background, midground and foreground in art and how this can add emphasis and interest to a piece. It has been quite challenging for most to understand the benefit of starting from the back and work your way forward, layering as you go. This is primarily because instinct often states that you draw the most important and central part first. I am happy to report they are
creating some amazing work using this technique. It's been a big hit.
Live creatively,

Mandarin
We’ve had a smooth start to the term, with students revising previous learning and settling back into routines.
Students across different year levels have been building their confidence in using Mandarin through speaking, listening and writing activities.
Some highlights from our recent learning:
- Students have been applying their knowledge of numbers (1–99) to talk about age. They rolled dice to generate numbers and practised sentences such as “I am … years old” in Chinese。
- Grade 6 students have been working on a cultural project where they designed and built their own versions of the Great Wall of China (万里长城), showing creativity and an understanding of its cultural significance
- Creative projects have included a Chinese menu research task and a traditional vase design, where students incorporated Chinese cultural elements

Physical Education
Level F- 2
To kick off Term 2, our Level F–2 students have been focusing on developing their underarm throwing skills. They have been practising the “Swing, Step, Throw” technique and applying it in fun games such as You Make It, You Take It and Treasure Island.
It’s been wonderful to see their confidence grow, and their technique has already shown impressive improvement after just two weeks of practice!
Level 3 & 4
In Levels 3 & 4, students have been participating in a variety of team games, including Hula Hut Relay, soccer, and basketball, with a strong focus on developing positive sportsmanship and teamwork skills.
In preparation for the upcoming Cross Country Carnival in Week 4, students have also been showing great commitment by running laps before each lesson to build their fitness and endurance.
Level 5 and 6
In Levels 5–6, students have also been engaging in a variety of team games, including Hula Hut Relay, soccer, and basketball, continuing to build on their sportsmanship and teamwork skills.
Students have been demonstrating great dedication in the lead-up to the Cross Country Carnival in Week 4 by completing regular laps before each lesson to improve their fitness and endurance.
Looking ahead, Interschool Sport will begin in Week 4. In the meantime, students are participating in weekly practice sessions on Friday mornings and are showing great enthusiasm and readiness for the competition.
Thanks again for an awesome start to Term 2!

Level 1 & 2
We are entrusting our Level 1 & 2 students as guardians of the planet. Our focus this Term is Protecting our Planet. We have started the term with the story 'The Lorax', with a focus on what the world will look like if they plant the Truffla Seed and care for a forest.
Level 3 & 4
The Level 3 & 4 students will be studying Earth and Space science. This week we asked questions about space and used globes to learn more about our planet.
Level 5 & 6
This term our physics unit is Light! During week 1 we created a 'make'n'take' light illusion. We will learn about how our eyes percieve light, reflection and refraction.
