L4 Homework Week 3 and 4
Laptops are to be brought to school fully charged please.
Literacy:
In Literacy we have been reading 'This is Home, Essential Australian Poems for Children' with poems selected by Jackie French. Students have been analysing the structural and language elements of poetry, and how poets use adjectives and verbs to make their writing engaging and detailed.
Students have been writing reflections about the poems, explaining the poet's choices and describing the events in the poems we are reading. In the next coming weeks we will continue to explore more Australian poems, and engage in our own poetry writing.
In Spelling we have been looking at the base word 'verse- vert' meaning turn.
This word builder picture below is part of the homework this fortnight. How many words do you know and do you know the meaning too?

Numeracy:
In Math our focus has turned towards multiplication and division. To support this focus students have been encouraged to learn their times table facts in class, and we would encourage them to practice at home.
Regarding multiplication students have learnt to multiply not only one- and two-digit numbers but also two- and three-digit numbers with the aid of trading. Some students are still learning the process of where to put the numbers but this will improve over time. They all understand the multiplication skills involved, which is the important part.
Division was met with certain trepidation, but we like to think as we unpack this aspect of Mathematics student confidence is growing. Over the weeks students will be learning the division algorithm and applying it to division equations involving one- and two-digit.
