H2 GRAND PRIX 2025

This program is an optional event for students with a curiosity towards technology and problem solving. Along the way they learn teamwork, leadership and other important life skills. This year, the Like Minds class has two H2GP teams with a mix of year 7 and 8 students.

So, what is the H2GP? The H2 Grand Prix is a worldwide initiative that challenges the innovators of tomorrow to design, build and race hydrogen-powered RC cars. First, they receive the starter kit and learn the ropes of how to set the cars up. After the cars are able to be driven, they get to be creative and design the chassis and make modifications to enhance not only looks, but the efficiency and durability of the cars.

RACE DAY TUESDAY 22nd JULY

Our two KSC representative teams “Hydrospeed” and “Blue Flame” were up against some tough competition, but ran a magnificent 4-hour endurance race, coming in 11th and 12th positions (not last!). The Hydrospeed team were in 3rd and 4th position during the first hour, running a consistent race, then sat in 6th position for the majority of time, until they ran out of speed and were overtaken by some more strategic teams. Blue Flame suffered some early car difficulties but persisted and got back on the track later in the session. Well done to everyone, you all did an amazing job.

A couple of shout outs for the day:

  • To Violet (Year 8) and Miley (Year 7) who were our photographers for the day.
  • The Martin Carlson Foundation for being our generous sponsors and being there to cheer for us on the day.
  • Gippsland Tech School for their support and hands-on sessions prior to race day. And for accepting the trophy for best presentation on our behalf (as we missed the ceremony).
  • To Mr Kellow for being team mechanic (unfortunately he missed race day).
  • Mrs Witton for organising, supervising and being on numerous duties race day.
