THE VILLAGE

The Village: Supporting Student Wellbeing Together
At Korumburra Secondary College, we believe that wellbeing and learning go hand-in-hand. The Village is our space to share what we’re doing as a school community to support the mental, emotional and social development of our students through evidence-based approaches and whole-school initiatives.
Coming Soon: Our Behaviour Matrix
Over the coming weeks, we will begin formally rolling out our new School-Wide Behaviour Matrix with students across Years 7–9. This matrix is grounded in our core values:
We are respectful
We are resilient
We are kind
We try our best
The Behaviour Matrix outlines what these values look like in action in the classroom, in the yard, and online and provides a shared understanding for how we interact, learn and grow together as a school community.
What makes this launch even more meaningful is that the designs for the matrix have been created by our students. Their voices and ideas are central to this process, helping ensure the matrix reflects not just what we expect, but who we are.
Over Term 3, students will engage with the matrix through classroom activities, recognition systems (like Mystery Student), and visual displays throughout the school.
A Spotlight on Online Safety
As we focus on building positive behaviour across the school, we’re also continuing the conversation around safe and respectful online behaviour. We all know how tricky the digital world can be to navigate especially for young people.
We recommend checking out the eSafety Commissioner’s website. It’s a great resource for parents and carers, with simple tips, videos and conversation guides for things like social media, gaming and screen time:

Evidence Base
A lot of this lines up with ideas from The Anxious Generation by Jonathan Haidt, a book that’s been getting a lot of attention lately. Haidt talks about how too much screen time and not enough real-world connection can impact young people’s mental health—and how adult support and boundaries can really make a difference.
As a school, we’re committed to helping students build healthy, balanced habits online, and we’re grateful to have our families alongside us in that journey.
