NAIDOC Week 2025: Honouring Elders and Building Legacy
During NAIDOC Week 2025, our secondary school students engaged in a meaningful project centered around the theme The Next Generation: Strength, Vision and Legacy. Students reflected on the important Elders in their lives, sharing heartfelt stories about who these Elders are and the qualities they appreciate most.
As part of the activities, students participated in workshops exploring what kind of legacy they hope to leave behind, and what “ancestorship” means to them—recognizing the ongoing connection between past, present, and future generations. These reflections were then creatively expressed through designing possum skins, symbolizing the continuity of culture and personal identity.
This inspiring project will continue throughout the year, deepening students’ understanding of cultural heritage, respect, and responsibility for the next generation.
