Living in the moment while keeping an eye on what is ahead

Futures Thinking in Years 9 and 10

This past week, our Year 9 and 10 students engaged deeply in Futures Day—a pivotal moment where they begin to examine:

- Where their strengths lie 

- What their learning data (past results and performances) suggests about strengths and future pathways 

- How their interests and capabilities align with subject choices 

This week’s subject selection interviews with key middle leaders provide families and students with a structured opportunity to articulate aspirations, while teachers contribute evidence‑based insights drawn from past performance. Making thoughtful subject choices is a powerful act of student agency—a chance for young people to take greater ownership of the direction their learning will take.

 Leadership Formation in Year 11

In the coming weeks, Year 11 students will participate in their Leadership Formation Day, a time to reflect on how they have grown and changed throughout their schooling journey. This year’s program includes:

- A keynote address delivered to both Year 11 cohorts at Clyde North 

- A suite of student‑selected workshops tailored to their interests 

- A barbecue lunch prepared by our 2026 College Captains—an authentic demonstration of servant leadership in action 

-An afternoon spent with students from their house, learning more about their charism and leadership within their given house.

Following this, students will begin considering who they believe should lead the College in 2027, building on the exceptional work of this year’s leadership team under Will and Minh.

Year 12: Eyes on the Horizon

For our Year 12 students, the VTAC Information Assembly and one‑on‑one meetings with our careers counsellor, Ms Dillon, often mark a turning point. These sessions prompt serious reflection on:

- University and TAFE options 

- Post‑school preferences 

- The reality that secondary schooling is nearing its end 

This moment tends to crystallise the mindset shift: it’s time to lock in for the final stretch toward VCAA exams. The future—less structured, more open, and full of possibility—sits just beyond the horizon.

Living in the Now, Preparing for What’s Next

Across all year levels, this period is rich with change. It is vital that students embrace the present—engaging fully with each opportunity—while keeping a steady eye on the future so that today’s decisions expand tomorrow’s possibilities.

Drawing on the expertise of St Peter’s educators, alongside the wisdom of parents and guardians, ensures that choices are well‑considered and that more doors open than close.
