Subject Selection Season
Subject selection season is now in full swing. Year 8-10 students participated in our Future’s Day where they were able to learn about all our subject offerings for 2027. Year 8’s explored the fast range of electives subjects and at Clyde North experienced some activities that highlight the skills they will develop in the XSPAND Program next year. The challenge of having 28 students standing on a tarpaulin and trying to turn it over without anyone getting off definitely taps into problem solving and collaboration. The Year 9 and 10’s were introduced to their range of subject offerings as well and engaged with teachers to help them develop their pathways through the senior years of school. In a quick show of hands, Year 9 and 10 students were asked if they had changed their minds about what they want to study next year after participating in the sessions that day. Approximately three quarters agreed that they had. This is evidence of the value of the day, the hard work staff have put into sharing their subjects and expertise, and the openness of our students to considering the best pathway for their own future.
Year 9 and 10 students have also participated in subject selection interviews this week with their House Leaders or a member of the Curriculum Team. All students have received excellent guidance to ensure they have on the right pathway through the remainder of their time at school.
Model United Nations in the Japanese Language
This week, the Clyde North Year 11 Japanese class participated in a Model United Nations conference conducted entirely in Japanese. Four students were selected to represent Australia, while three represented France.
After months of dedication and preparation, the students delivered position statements in Japanese that reflected their assigned countries' policies on space and sustainability to delegates representing 30 different countries. They also debated the proposals of other delegations and worked collaboratively to develop a new United Nations resolution.
Although initially feeling overwhelmed most participants were Year 12 students, the Clyde North students reported that they thoroughly enjoyed the experience. They valued the opportunity to meet fellow students who share a passion for Japanese and to further develop both their prepared and impromptu speaking skills.
Overall, the Model United Nations was a highly rewarding experience for our VCE Japanese students. It provided a unique opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions about space and sustainability while applying their Japanese language skills in an authentic international setting.
Upcoming Year 12 Curriculum Events
Our Year 12 students are currently completing their final assessment tasks for Unit 4. All SACs will be completed by the end of Week 8 – not long to go now!
Following their final SACs, Year 12 students will participate in a week of trial examinations during Week 9. These exams provide an excellent opportunity for students to receive valuable feedback on their exam technique and overall skill level in preparation for the final VCE examinations. Students are encouraged to prepare thoroughly and make the most of this experience.
In Week 10, Year 12 students will have the opportunity to participate in revision tutorials across their various subjects. Some tutorials will be delivered by external providers, offering additional insight into subject-specific exam preparation, while others will be facilitated by St Peter's College staff. These sessions will take place in lieu of regular classes and provide another valuable opportunity for students to consolidate their learning and prepare for their final examinations.
