💨 High Winds and High Energy in the Steam Room!
At the end of Term 2, the Steam Room had a very special guest visit Ormond Primary School! Peter Degorski, Ada’s dad (FS), blew us away with a fascinating presentation about his career as a meteorologist. The children were absolutely captivated as he explained how scientists predict the weather, especially how they measure the wind.
The highlight of the indoor session was a hands-on look at a real anemometer! The kids learned exactly how this spinning tool measures wind speed and why it is so important for meteorologists.
🍃 Playground Weather Expedition
We then put on our scientist hats and headed outside! We got into groups and went on a wind-hunting expedition across the playground.
The children had a blast finding different "wind hotspots" where the breeze was the strongest. They tested the anemometers and watched how the wind moved the environment around them, experiencing science in action.
A huge thank you to Peter, the 'Wind Hunter', for sharing his time, passion, and expertise with our budding scientists!

Year 1/2 Scientists Explore Sound!
Our Year 1/2 students have officially launched their new Physical Sciences unit, and the classroom is buzzing with excitement—literally!
This week, our young scientists made the thrilling discovery that every sound they hear is caused by vibrations. They learned that these invisible movements travel through the air and right into our ears, allowing us to hear the world around them.
To bring this concept to life, students stepped back in time and created their very own string telephones, using paper cups and string to build their communication devices. Partners stretched the strings tight to feel the vibrations travel.
To help us plan more exciting community visits, could you let us know if you would like to share your own STEAM related profession with the class, what hobbies or skills you could demonstrate, or what days of the week work best for your schedule?
