Visual Arts Vista – News from the Art Room

Art Competition Excursion on 10 June

What an absolutely fabulous experience the Song Of Art Competition winners were able to be a part of last term at MUMA. On arrival, students attended a guided tour of the gallery which included an immersive performance of the artist, Tina Stefanou, who made sound through the exhibited artworks.  Students then participated in a Sound Workshop exploring voice and body percussion before creating their own upcycled instruments. Students were also provided with the opportunity  to participate in an orchestral performance which was professionally recorded!  Once edited this recorded soundscape will be delivered to Ormond PS as a keepsake.  Students not only demonstrated impeccable manners and behaviour when travelling by train, but fully immersed themselves in the workshops and gallery tour. A big thank you also goes out to Mr Jones and Mrs Markou for coming along to help make the excursion a huge success.

"My highlight was when we attempted to make our own instruments - 

it allowed us to use our creativity based on what element we chose."

"We looked at sound art which was pretty cool! Then we played a game and made our own instruments and played them. It was super fun."

"As the train zoomed along the track, me and my friend Shanaya talked about how excited we were! The highlight was making the instruments with Tina Stefanou.

"We got to play a game called sonic bath and people went around the circle making different sounds of elements.  The real fun part was we could go on a train."

Year 3/4

Lucy Meets Artist Pete Cromer

Last term Year 3 and 4 students worked on completing their Pete Cromer inspired needle-felted artworks and achieved stunning results!  One of our students, Lucy D-L from 34P, was lucky enough to actually meet artist Pete Cromer in person at the Big Design Markets and chatted with him about his techniques.  It was so wonderful to hear about her chance meeting and how happy he was to hear we had been learning about him.

Term 3 Artist Study - Henri Matisse

Year 3 and 4 students have begun this term by working on recreating still-life compositions in the style of Henri Matisse.  They have demonstrated a terrific application of both colour theory and oil pastel techniques, resulting in wonderfully expressive artworks!
