VCE Business Management Excursion to Yakult Factory
Our VCE Business Management students recently had the opportunity to step outside the classroom and gain an insight into a real-world manufacturing business with a tour of the Yakult factory in Dandenong. Yakult is a fermented probiotic milk drink that is known for being beneficial to individual health and nutrition.
For their studies focused on business environments, marketing and operations management, students gained a firsthand insight into the production of Yakult from blow moulding the bottles from 3grams of plastic, following the journey through the factory floor and observing bottling, labelling and quality control to then taste testing the finished product. Our tour guide, Amanda, was knowledgeable about the company Yakult, its operations and marketing, but also well versed in the VCE study design to specifically cater to the students’ areas of interest and study needs.
Some reflections from our students…
“I believe that it was a valuable insight into the behind the scenes from making nothing into something and into a saleable product”
“Yakult’s relevance to our VCE Business Management study is it shows how businesses like production companies operate, promote and market their product and innovate new ideas. It is a real life business that represents everything we’ve learned about.”
The visit allowed students' theoretical learnings to be applied to a contemporary business — showing how the classroom connects with the business world. This visit to Yakult was an informative experience that will hopefully support students in their studies and future business pursuits.
