VCE Vocational Major

Year 11 VCE VM Numeracy

Our Shape and Quantity and Measures unit has continued with students moving into constructing bridges from icy pole sticks. Students researched many different aspects of bridges before they came up with their design. It will be great watching them develop over the next week.

Year 12 VCE VM Numeracy

Our Shape and Quantity and Measures unit has resulted in the construction of some amazing models of sustainable houses with many still under way. Students have researched sustainability features and design and have created a floor plan and model of their house design.

The first of our houses is almost complete. See Angela’s reflection below.

Angela... I don’t even know I was just following the instructions and suddenly bam I have a little house. The measurements stumped me a lot but everything else was pretty simple, like choosing the sustainable features like bamboo flooring.

I used cardboard for the house as well as popsicle sticks to hold some parts together. Finally, hot glue helped hold everything together.

$20 Cooking Challenge

Last week students were introduced to the $20 Cooking Challenge. Students were told in groups of 3 or 4 they were to prepare a suitable meal for dinner. Some of the restrictions included a budget of $20 per group and all cooking, cleaning and eating needed to happen within a 2 hour period. Students were also required to budget and shop for their meal choice.

On Monday 12th May students walked as a group to the Seymour shopping precinct and were given time in their groups to shop for the items required. They were only given $20 so needed to ensure all items were included in this amount.

On Tuesday 13th May students completed the cooking challenge. The kitchen was a buzz with chatter and activity and the cooking challenge was under way. We had gnocchi, curry, spaghetti carbonara, lasagna, honey chicken, burgers and baked potatoes.

Some outstanding meals were created and many bellies were full.
