THISTLELONIAN AWARDS 2024

Since 1997, Thistlelonians has presented awards to current Year 9 students; to date over $26,000 has been donated by ex-students and staff. These are awarded to Year 9 students who have demonstrated general excellence and contribution to the College. They are determined by the Year 9 Student Managers based on the recipients’ contribution to the college community.

JINIA GANGULY

I was filled with pride to be one of the Thistlelonian award winners in 2024. I am so grateful to have my name placed with the past recipients and it filled me with inspiration to know I have carried the McKinnon Secondary College standards to the best of my abilities. This prestigious school has gifted me with numerous capabilities over the years and allowed me to develop both academically and as the person I am today. 

Through my years at McKinnon, the school has provided me with amazing opportunities to grow academically, enriching me with knowledge I am able to carry on in the future. The school has also provided me with multiple leadership opportunities to understand myself and others around me on a deeper level. 

Overall I couldn’t be more thankful in receiving the Thistlelonian Award and I truly appreciate and honour the opportunities and experiences McKinnon Secondary College has provided me. 

MATILDA KELLEHER

I felt honoured to be considered for such an amazing award and so proud to be the recipient for 2024. I feel very lucky to be part of McKinnon and the positive and supportive culture the school represents. I have embraced new challenges and appreciate the opportunities I have been given.

I'm so grateful for this award and appreciate the people who have supported me, especially the teaching staff. 

I'm looking forward to another successful year! 

RAAMIZ SYED-MUHAMMAD

I am honoured to be rewarded the Thistleonian Award for 2024. It has filled me with a sense of pride to be in McKinnon as it shows that many efforts do not go unnoticed and the school appreciates every student. 

I have been in this school since year 7, 2022, which was the year I moved to Australia and I am grateful to have been accepted into the community so quickly despite the big change, making friends instantly with my teachers being very considerate and accommodating throughout the years. 

This school has a vast range of opportunities to widen your social sphere, through many different clubs and events, where you can meet amazing people and have a great time. There are many great educational opportunities, like the South Melbourne Market excursion in year 9 which I really enjoyed. 

All my teachers have been incredibly understanding and allowed me to prosper in my academics.

Overall, I am grateful to be a part of the McKinnon community and for being recognised for the Thistleonian Award in 2024. I am thankful for the opportunities, experiences and help I have received throughout the years and will continue to contribute to try and become a better person everyday throughout the rest of my years at McKinnon. Thank you.
