Library Borrowing & Returns

Students can borrow up to 5 books at a time, for a 2 week duration.  Reminder emails, notices on Compass, and TEAMS messages are sent to students when books are overdue, prompting them to return or renew.

We do not charge overdue fees, but long overdue books (months) will incur a replacement fee, and parents will be contacted via Compass 'events' regarding this.

Book Bites Book Club

Book Bites Book Club (Tuesday lunchtime for all students) members enjoyed a lunchtime feast as they shared their thoughts on 'romance' novels. A lot of fun and a lot of food to share too!  This term we are focussing on 'fantasy' novels and also recreating and/or reimagining the cover of our chosen book.

We also attended the Melbourne Writer's Festival at the State Library of Victoria.

"On May the 7th, a few students went to the Melbourne writers festival. At the festival was Karen Comer, Amy Doak, Tigest Girma, Jasmin McGaughey and cartoonist First Dog On The Moon. There were books for sale that you could get signed by the authors in between presentations. It was a very interesting event and I would recommend it to anyone interested in reading, writing or drawing."

MESC Reading Rockets Team - Kids Lit Quiz Competition

Four very enthusiastic students joined together to form the MESC Reading Rockets team as we entered the Victorian Heats of the 'Kids Lit Quiz' for the first time. Well done to Ophelia, Phoebe, Sophia and Zack who did themselves, and the college, proud by finishing in 5th place out of 23 teams.

"On Friday the 24th of April, the MESC Reading Rockets went to Star of The Sea College in Brighton to compete in the Kids Lit (Literature) quiz. We were in a team of four and there were ten rounds which each had ten questions. The rounds had topics like rodents, water, queens and comics. We were coming in second and third for most of it but ended up coming in fifth. It was a great day, and it was lots of fun! Sophia said, “It was an exciting day, and we grew together as a team.” Pheobe said, “I would love to do it again and would recommend it to anyone who has the chance.” A shout out to Ms. Swannell for organising the event and transporting us, as well as our amazing mascot Rocket the dog, with his outfit made by Pheobe and Ophelia."

Juggling Jigsaws

A very dedicated group of students have been steadily completing a number of jigsaw puzzles at recess and lunchtimes.  Their tally so far is 9 puzzles - with the aim to complete at least 3 per term.  It's been great to see students of all year levels getting involved, chatting and supporting  each other piece by piece!
