Enhanced Performance Program 2026
The Enhanced Performance Program (EPP) at MESC provides advanced learning opportunities for talented students across all curriculum areas, allowing them to be involved in challenging and globally connected programs, in addition to the regular classroom curriculum. It is a commitment by students to maintain academic achievement above the expected level for their nominated subject area.
EPP specifically caters for student's individual needs and passions and celebrates their drive to achieve excellence. Participants have been through a formal process, including submission of a written application and participated in an interview before being formally accepted into the 2026 program.
There are currently 30 students (Years 7, 8, 9) involved and each EPP student has set a personal goal for this year relating to their own subject area. Students will meet with the EPP Mentor twice a term to reflect on their progress towards meeting this goal.
Students have been provided with a number of opportunites to get involved in their nominated subject area by connecting with their subject teacher, participating in events posted in the EPP Teams group - e.g. writing and maths competitions; Melbourne Writer's Festival excursion (click here to read some of the EPP student reports from MWF26); as well as assisting and participating in various sports events. All EPP students will be attending an upcoming "Philosophy in Classroom Spaces" incursion which will see each group engaging in a philosophical dialogue on a subject of their choice.
Victorian High Ability Program 2026
The Victorian High Ability Program (VHAP) has been running since 2020 and enables high-ability students in Years 7-8, at all Victorian State Schools, to be challenged and extended in a supportive environment. English and Maths sessions are delivered online by Virtual School Victoria in 10-week (1 term) blocks where students engage with their online teacher. Their course material can also be access via the VSV Online portal outside of the class time.
In the VHAP English course, students explore links between reality and fiction by observing the world around them and their journeys into fictional worlds. VHAP English empowers students through cultivating confidence and a willingness to take academic risks.
In the VHAP maths course, students embrace the “why” of maths, not just the “what”. Students and teachers dive into the philosophical implications of mathematical topics.
If you have any queries regarding either program please contact Lynn Swannell (Librarian) VHAP/EPP Mentor.
