Social Justice Sunday
Each year, Social Justice Sunday is marked on the last Sunday of August. This year, it will be celebrated on Sunday, 30 August.
To mark this occasion, the Australian Catholic Bishops release a Social Justice Statement, inviting us, as a Church and as individuals, to consider how we might respond to those most in need and work towards a more just and compassionate society. This year, the Australian Bishops have released two statements, perhaps reflecting the particular challenges facing our society today.
The first, The Cost of Our Living: Economic and Social Justice for the Common Good, released earlier this year, invites us to listen to the human stories of struggle and to consider the impact of economic inequality on individuals, families and communities.
The second, Living the Gospel in Times of Social Division, invites us to reflect on how we might remain people of hope, compassion and connection in a world that can often feel increasingly divided.
Together, these statements challenge us to recognise the dignity of every person, to listen to the stories and experiences of others, and to consider how we can contribute to a society built on justice, compassion and the common good. Both are linked below for you to read if you wish.
As a school community in the Mary Ward tradition, we are called to respond with justice and compassion. Mary Ward believed deeply in the dignity of every person and urged her followers to “do good and do it well.” Living this out today means using our voices to advocate for those who are silenced, standing in solidarity with those on the margins, and working to ensure that no one is excluded or forgotten. Our action, whether through prayer, advocacy, volunteering or simply offering kindness, reflect the values that shape our identity as a Loreto school.

Loreto Community Mass
The annual Loreto Community Mass hosted by the Loreto Old Scholars Association is this Sunday August 30. The Mass will be held in the Loreto College Chapel. All are welcome to attend.
