SAPSASA Athletics

Well done to our athletics team, who attended the East Adelaide SAPSASA Athletics Trials at Mile End recently.

It was a drizzly morning, but it soon turned into a perfect day. Our athletes performed exceptionally well in what is a very high-standard competition.

The girls participated in the Come n Try hockey program at Loreto this winter and then attended trial sessions at East Torrens Primary School over the last few weeks. The State Carnival runs from September 16-18 at the State Hockey Centre.

Good luck, girls!

Year 4 Netball

Our Year 4 netball teams are clicking into gear at the moment with both teams having good wins on the weekend. Let’s hope that playing our best netball at this time of year becomes a habit. In 12 months’ time, we’ll be on the eve of finals!

A fortnight ago, the Orange team were in a tight tussle against Marryatville Primary School. Scores were level with only minutes remaining. The crowd was getting anxious when up stepped Lily P at Goal Attack, sinking a crucial goal. The siren sounded soon after – winners by one! On the court next door, the Purple team went with 2 goals of toppling first-ranked Magill Primary School. An exceptionally good effort considering that we only had six players!

Netball Lightning Carnivals

Some of our netball teams have had a fun end to the season, playing an internal lightning carnival in place of their training recently.

On Thursday morning at Year 5/6 training, the Loreto Blue, Gold, Red and Silver teams mixed together to form 4 new teams. The matches were very even with all teams winning at least one game:

  • 1st Blue team: 1 win and 2 draws (8 goals scored)
  • 2nd Green team: 1 win and 1 draw (14 goals scored)
  • 3rd Purple team: 1 win and 1 draw (9 goals scored)
  • 4th Red team: 1 win (11 goals scored)

Then on Monday at Year 3 training, our Pink and Green teams split up into three new teams:

  • 1st Purple team: 2 wins and 2 draws (7 goals scored)
  • 2nd Blue team: 1 win and 1 draw (4 goals scored)
  • 3rd Green team: 1 win and 1 draw (3 goals scored)

Many thanks to Claire B, who is out of action at the moment due to injury but helped me with both carnivals – running the electronic scoreboard, maintaining premiership tables and giving out awards to the winners. Thanks for your help, and hopefully we’ll see you back on the court soon!

Aerobics

It is almost go time for our aerobics teams, with our Junior teams performing at the National Championships on the Gold Coast on Sunday, 13 September. The teams and coaches are working extremely hard in the lead-up to the event. It is fantastic to see values such as discipline and work ethic being instilled in our students!

Let’s Dance

Our Loreto Swish Year 3 basketball team picked up their second victory of the term on Wednesday, with a strong 36-6 win over Walford. It is pleasing to see the team share the ball around, with Elouise and Lola F scoring their first points of the term. As soon as the final buzzer sounded, the team launched into their now traditional “funky chicken” victory dance with great enthusiasm. I’m not sure how the tradition started exactly, but it looks like it’s here to stay.
