Year 7 Soccer Team Triumphs in Regional Finals!

On July 30th, the Year 7 soccer team proudly emerged victorious in the regional soccer finals, showcasing their skill, determination, and teamwork.

The journey began with a hard-fought victory against Gleneagles, where DHS secured a 2-1 win. This impressive start set the stage for an exhilarating tournament, with the boys later dominating Wulerrp in a remarkable 5-0 victory. Their momentum continued as they faced Port Melbourne, winning decisively with a score of 3-1.

The grand final saw DHS up against Narre Warren South P-12 in an intense showdown. In a closely contested match, the Year 7 team triumphed once again, finishing the game with a 2-1 victory, solidifying their place as regional champions.

In addition to their regional success, students also participated in the Melbourne Victory Cup, a competition that included 14 soccer academy schools, where our team finished 3rd overall. The Melbourne Victory football program has greatly contributed to the success shown in this year’s competitions.

With this impressive win, the boys now set their sights on the upcoming state finals, eager to continue their winning streak and represent their school on a larger stage. Congratulations to the Year 7 soccer team for their extraordinary achievement and best of luck in the state finals!

A Grand shoutout to the Coach Ryan Anderson who came back early from his Leave to ensure that he could coach The Year 7s and Senior students for their regional finals.

Cross Country: One competitor through to State!

Our Cross Country this year was run in PE Classes at the very start of Term 2 we had some magnificent times run by our students as they competed against their classmates across year levels to push themselves to get their best times.

Unfortunately for us, District Cross country fell on a day where we had a Pupil free day for Parent Teacher Interviews. Nonetheless we still had 40 students put their hand up to say yes and engaged in Morning Training sessions with Mr Dietzsch to get their best efforts and times. From the 40 that attended our Cross-Country event we had more than half make it regional level with 23 going on to Regional Cross country with 2 win their age group, had multiple 2nd and 3rd placings and won the Boys U14 division With 5 competitors inside the top 14.

At Regional Cross Country, the students participated in heavy rain and windy conditions as they ran their 3km or 5km Races. We had 1 particularly successful runner who ran an unbelievable 5km time of -18. Hussain A finished 8th at Regional and was invited to run the state cross country at The Yarra Valley.

He attended the State Cross Country with Mr Dietzsch who provided Hussain with his running shoes and finished 38th/90 competitors with a time of 17:44. We are so proud of him and our cross-country team. The best part for Hussain is that he has 2 more years to run in this same age group and hopefully keep improving that result!

I am so proud of the success this year in Sport. Whether winning or just getting a team out to provide opportunities and exposure to a variety of sport, there has been a record number of teams out this year and I could not be happier of the comradely and happiness this has bought to our school!
