On Friday 25th July, our senior Year 11 and 12 students attended the NGV (International gallery) Impressionism lecture and exhibition as part of their preparation for an upcoming SAC. They attended a lecture which allowed them to gain further understanding regarding the behind the scenes, which included the planning for the collection of artworks, permission required and transportation from overseas or borrowed from private collectors. They also learnt further about packing the artworks for transportation and temperatures required once the artworks have been delivered and set up for the winter exhibition. They have learnt the requirements in working with the curator, designer and conservators. This exhibition was displayed that showed how some of the artworks would have been displayed in private homes of wealthy people from Boston US. The colours of the rooms also emulated to colour from the times or selected from the artworks themselves. If you have an opportunity, I suggest it’s an excellent exhibition to view in a unique setting. Our students enjoyed this exhibition immensely.
On Friday 25th July, the VCE Art Making and Exhibiting students visited the NGV to see the French Impressionist Exhibition. It was honestly such a fun experience and felt completely different from the Kusama exhibition earlier this year. The whole atmosphere was classical, they really nailed the look of a posh Boston mansion, and it felt like we were transported into a totally different setting. Each room had its own look, and with the artwork surrounding all the walls, it genuinely felt more like we were inside a mansion than in a gallery. What really surprised me was how ahead of their time the artworks felt. Even though these pieces were painted in the 1800s, they had such a fresh and modern energy, The loose brushstrokes, the focus on everyday life, the pastel colours, gosh. Overall, I really loved the exhibition as it wasn't like anything else we’ve seen before!
