Arthur Bolkas Incursion

The Year 11 and 12 Legal Studies students attended an incursion hosted by ex-prisoner turned criminologist, presenter and writer, Arthur Bolkas. Arthur spoke to our students about the prison system and factors that influence recidivism. His personal experiences were extremely impactful to listen to. He brought a lot of Legal Studies content to life, it was engaging and thought provoking. His lived experience provided an authentic lens into how prisons operate in Victoria. Arthur challenged us to look beyond the label of 'offender' and consider the human being underneath, the circumstances, the trauma and the systematic failures that often lead someone to prison. Our students left the incursion feeling inspired, moved and with a new understanding of the different perspectives of our criminal justice system. It was a fantastic presentation that our Legal Studies students learnt a lot from and will take with them throughout their studies.
