Science

We are continuing to enjoy our topic for this term – Physics: Forces, Energy and Motion. Over the past fortnight classes have been investigating different forms of energy including sound, light and heat. They are enjoying engaging in the scientific inquiry process of making predictions, carrying out investigations, recording results and discussing findings and drawing conclusions. It is great to see the reactions when the experiments do not go as predicted and new things are discovered, just as it is rewarding when students make predictions based on prior knowledge or experiences and the results confirm these!
Grade F/1 students investigating light - what materials it passes through and what materials block it, causing a shadow!
Grade 2-6 students investigating heat!
Grade 2/3/4 tested which spoon would conduct heat the fastest - metal, wood or plastic.
Grade 5/6 tested which material insulated an ice block the best, preventing it from melting - foil, plastic wrap, paper towel or fabric.
Over the next few sessions, each grade will take some time to reflect upon their learning as well as engage in a project of their choice to further explore physics concepts investigated this term. Looking forward to this!
