F/1

Over the last few weeks, the F/1 students have been completing a range of assessments, demonstrating all the learning they have completed over the last Semester.
We should all be very proud of their growth and efforts so far this year.
LITERACY
Our time writing narratives has continued, and we have been creative learners. The children have all work wonderfully to create a range of engaging stories, independently and as a whole group. They have practised their examination and descriptive skills, responding to books and illustrations, and using these as inspiration for their own stories.
We have also been lucky enough to enjoy our Reading time with our buddy group, the 5/6 class. They have visited us frequently over the last fortnight, sharing some of their favourite stories, and brining opportunities for singing and music to extend our speaking and listening skills.
NUMERACY
Over the last fornight, we have been preparing ourselves for our maths assessments, by reviewing and applying all of our learning about place value, part-whole and skip counting.
In readiness for our next learning area, the children have begun to transfer their knowledge of part-whole, and place value into addition and subtraction. They are already making wonderful progress noticing patterns in addition, and developing strategies that enable them to add using concrete materials (such as blocks or counters).
INQUIRY
Our Inquiry has really taken off over the last week, with the introduction of the book My Place (by Nadia Wheatley). Using this book, the children have noticed how people, places, technoloy and appearances change over time. Some of our most shocking observations included the difference in people's clothes and hair (especially in the 1980s), all streets used to be made of dirt, people dug for clay to make bricks in the 'brick pits', and that buses were once pulled by horses!
Thank you all for your continued support this term. Hopefully everyone enjoys a wonderful long weekend.
Keep warm!
Miss Turner
