Participants and their parents, carers are encouraged to set a reading goal and choose from thousands of wonderful books throughout the Challenge.

Parents and carers – we’re going to need your help. Reading together is one of the most powerful ways we can help kids build their literacy skills, and the confidence to pick up books on their own.

Student logins will be handed out to students next week.

Everyone is on their own reading adventure. Participants who complete their reading goal will get a certificate signed by the Premier and past Premiers of our state.

What is ICAS?

ICAS is an online academic competition that is designed to assess students’ higher order thinking and problem-solving skills in English, Mathematics, Science, Writing and Digital Technologies. It is a parent paid competition which is open to students from Years 2 to 6.

Every student who participates will receive a printed certificate and an online results report. Top performers will be eligible for medals.

How to participate in ICAS

If you wish for your child to participate in ICAS this year, please refer to the ICAS Testing Centres webpage.

Your child must:

  • Be enrolled in an Australian or New Zealand school that isn’t participating in this year’s ICAS for the desired subjects
  • Participate in their current year level
  • Have their own, fully-charged compatible device that has passed our technical readiness test, and has the locked-down browser application installed (for Writing subject only). See technical requirements here.
  • Each subject costs AU$57.75 (incl. GST), aside from Writing, which costs AU$62.75 (incl. GST). This is paid when booking online. You must register and pay for your child’s session to gain entry to the competition.

Australian Maths Challenge

As part of our Enrichment Program, selected students in Grades 3–6 will be participating in the Australian Maths Challenge over the coming weeks. This opportunity is designed for students who are performing well above the expected level in Mathematics and encourages them to apply their problem-solving, reasoning and critical thinking skills to complex mathematical tasks.

The challenge runs over 3–4 weeks, with students completing the tasks during class time independently, without teacher support. We look forward to seeing our students challenge themselves and showcase their mathematical thinking
