Junior School

你 好 (ni hao) Foundation, Year 1 and Year 2 families,

This week, we have continued to explore the important role that play and inquiry learning have in the early years classroom. In Foundation and Year 1, students learn through hands-on experiences, games, imaginative play, and collaborative tasks that help build strong foundations in communication, social development, problem-solving, and creativity.

As students move into Year 2, learning gradually becomes more inquiry-based. Students are encouraged to ask questions, investigate ideas, solve problems, and work collaboratively with others while continuing to engage in meaningful hands-on learning experiences.

Through play and inquiry, students are also developing important curriculum skills across English, Mathematics, and Personal and Social Capability. Activities such as construction, role play, investigations, games, and creative projects support students to strengthen their oral language, early reading and writing skills, numeracy understanding, teamwork, and critical thinking.

Play is also incredibly important at home. Simple everyday experiences help children continue developing their social, emotional, and thinking skills in meaningful ways. This might include playing board games, building with LEGO or recycled materials, drawing and creating, playing outside, cooking together, reading stories, or organising play dates with friends.

Providing children with opportunities for play at home encourages creativity, communication, problem-solving, and connection with others. Often, the most valuable learning experiences come from simple moments of play, conversation, and exploration together.

Happy playing!
