Senior School

你 好 (ni hao)
It has been a great week of learning in the senior school. The students have shown enthusiasm, confidence and a willingness to challenge themselves in many different activities and lessons. It has been wonderful to see everyone working together, building new skills and improving their learning.
In Grade 3/4 Maths, students have been developing their multiplicative thinking skills by applying multiplication and division strategies to solve real-world problems. Students worked collaboratively to explore different ways to solve problems involving groups, arrays, sharing and using an input/output system. It has been wonderful to see students building confidence and using mathematical reasoning to explain their thinking. We ask that parents practise times tables with their children to develop fluency in recalling multiplication facts up 10 x 10.
During Reconciliation Week, students have been building connections to First Nations peoples and cultures through a range of meaningful learning experiences. Students explored the Wurundjeri seasons, learned about native plants of cultural and environmental significance, and investigated the local First Nations history of Nunawading. These activities encouraged students to deepen their understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and recognise the importance of reconciliation, respect, and connection to Country.
In Guided Inquiry, students have begun constructing their sustainable watercrafts by following the designs they created in Tinkercad. Using a range of materials and problem-solving skills, students are working to design a watercraft that can both float and move effectively. Over the coming weeks, students will test their prototypes and make refinements and improvements based on their results. It has been exciting to see students applying creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking throughout the design process.
3/4 students have also been taking turns of cooking as part of Kitchen Garden Program. All grades have had a chance to bake damper and make strawberry jam. The jam was a hit, with many students coming back for more!
On Thursday 28th May, the Grade 4 students participated in the Winter Gala Day. Students had the opportunity to compete in tee ball, soccer or netball. Despite the rainy weather, the Grade 4s showed great determination and proudly demonstrated the School alues while competing against other schools. We were extremely proud of the fairness and resilience displayed by students throughout the day. Well done, Grade 4s!
Warm regards,
