National NAIDOC Week

The theme for this year’s NAIDOC Week was The Next Generation: Strength, Vision and Legacy. Thornbury High therefore wanted to acknowledge and celebrate these traits through a few events throughout the week. First, there was a screening of the Adam Goodes documentary The Final Quarter (2019), which uses archival footage to examine the AFL legend’s final few years in the sport, emphasising the strength, resilience, and level-headedness with which Goodes responded to criticisms of his behaviour and the constant booing he endured. It was a powerful watch, and one that affirmed the legacy Goodes has left as both an incredible athlete, as well as an Australian of the Year recipient.

There was also a painting session where students were encouraged to use traditional symbols to guide the creation of their own artwork. This provided an opportunity to embrace creativity and share stories, while also discussing future plans for Thornbury High. Thank you to all the students and staff that got involved in these events!
