Year 10s Step Into the World of Work

From 30 June to 4 July, 150 Year 10 students from Thornbury High School swapped their classrooms for the workplace, taking part in the annual Work Experience Program. While most completed placements during the set week, many also explored opportunities outside these dates, making the most of this valuable chance to immerse themselves in real-world industries.
Students ventured into an incredible variety of workplaces, from engineering firms, law offices, medical clinics, hospitals, and local MPs’ offices to more creative and hands-on environments like florists, fashion design studios, candle-making workshops, cafes, and the Royal Botanic Gardens. Others experienced life in the defence force, electrical trades, marketing agencies, kindergartens, and architecture practices. Whether learning new skills, building professional connections, or getting a glimpse into their future careers, our students embraced the challenge with enthusiasm—returning with stories, confidence, and a clearer sense of what life beyond school could look like.
