Futures Expo

On August 7, we hosted another highly successful Futures Expo for many of our Thornbury High students and families. The aim of our Expo is to equip current Yr 8, 9 & 10 students with new information and insights to best prepare them when making their 2026 subject and pathway choices.

During the school day, students were able to visit the library, where each of our learning areas set up information stalls which were also staffed with teachers across various subjects. Students were highly active in asking lots of questions, investigating the nuanced differences between subjects, and being open to exploring all subject and pathway possibilities. This was reinforced in our evening session, where students returned with their families, to be able to explore and question further, and find out more about the year ahead for them at year-level specific information sessions.

My favourite comment of the evening came from a parent who said what a rare privilege it was to get such an insight into their child’s educational program, and all the pathway options their future could entail. We really value the opportunity to bring parents and carers into the subject selection and course counselling processes, and are so pleased when we receive feedback that tells us that value is reciprocated.

Events like this can only be a success with the huge efforts of everyone who works at THS - whether that be our Facilities team who help to get everything set up; our learning area teams who provide a wealth of subject-specific knowledge; our middle and senior school teams who are vital to ensuring our students are making seamless transitions each year; and our Careers team who provide such expertise about pathway programs at and beyond THS.

My thanks to everyone who made this event such a success!
